I feel art is necessary in our lives and in our education. Art is a building block of civilization. These tangible artistic expressions help us to understand ourselves. The arts teach us to respect both the diversity of our communities and the strength of our traditions. In addition, the arts are a powerful vehicle for communication, a way to express visions that are beyond the capacity of words and a medium for cultural enlightenment. Art is a visual legacy we leave to the future.
Beginning in August of 2009 through the fall of 2010 I am collaborating with adjunct ARC Art faculty, Sam Tubiolo, to design, plan, execute, and install a sculptural fountain for the entrance of the new Music/Theater building. My participation includes the design, execution and installation of forged bronze. Due to the size of the artwork, the work is being created predominately at our prospective studios. We are fortunate to have our studios approximately a mile apart which is facilitating the collaboration.
Our installation is energized with the inclusion of water. Water symbolizes rhythm and change. As with all performance arts there is a constant give and take, collaboration, a high and a low, an active and a passive expression, a balancing act.
Please check back future photographic updates on the project.
