Laura "Rusty" Parker's Touchmark laura at trip hammerI grew up in Sacramento, California and I am passionate about metal. This "obsession" leads me down many paths, each with a similar purpose: to bend, grind, cut, pour, or otherwise manipulate metal to submit to my creative will.

A fellow artist once asked me, "Isn't everything a self-portrait?" I tend to agree. My work is usually personal in nature, and emulates my own trial and tribulations.

Even so, I have been surprised how many of my "musings" are universal. Often as artists we feel we are somehow more senstive than the rest of the world. In reality, we all have soft underbellies. Some of us just choose to express those thoughts and feelings through art.

I am forntunate to be a tenured professor in the Art Department at American River College. I would encourage anyone considering a sculpture class to please visit the page titled "Classes" for up-to-date information on my teaching schedule.
